Whether you are a beginner or a pro, poker is a game of chance and skill. The goal is to create the best hand possible. The highest hand wins the pot.

Poker is a family of card games with hundreds of variations. Some of the earliest games were played with twenty cards, while the latest versions use a full 52-card deck.

The ante is the game’s “buy in” to play. Typically, players put a nickel into the pot.

There are three basic betting rounds. Each player will place bets toward the pot until the round ends. The player to the left of the button is the first dealer, who shuffles the cards. After each betting round, the dealer resumes dealing.

The best hand is the best card combination you can hold in your hand. For instance, a pair of kings isn’t bad off the deal, but a pair of Aces is much harder to beat.

The best hand is two distinct pairs of cards plus a fifth card. For example, trip 7s is the best hand you can have in poker.

A “backdoor flush” is achieved by hitting the correct cards on the turn and river. The best straight is the 8-9 of hearts.

The most important rule of thumb is to only bet into the pot if you are trying to bluff your way into the pot. This is also known as “sandbagging”. If you do, you will have to start off with a bigger bankroll.
